(Sukhdev) Sukh Dhaliwal is the Liberal Member of Parliament for Surrey-Newton. He was first elected to the House of Commons in 2006 and served until 2011 as the MP for the riding of Newton-North Delta. In 2015 he was re-elected in the new riding of Surrey–Newton.
As a Member of Parliament, Dhaliwal has held such roles as Official Opposition Critic for the Asia Pacific Gateway and Western Economic Diversification. He has served on several House of Commons Committees: International Trade; Transportation, Infrastructure and Communities; and Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics.
Dhaliwal emigrated from India in 1984 and became a Canadian citizen three years later.
After earning his Bachelor of Science (Surveying Engineering) from the University of Calgary, he started his own successful business, Dhaliwal & Associates Land Surveying Inc.
As a member of the Surrey Board of Trade, he was an active spokesman for small businesses. Dhaliwal has participated on the Board of Directors for SEEDS (Self Employment and Entrepreneur Development Society), was a member of the City of Surrey Parks and Community Services committee, and volunteered with Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Emergency Centre Campaign – a fundraiser to assist in the construction of the hospital’s expanded emergency ward.
Mr. Dhaliwal’s wife. Roni, is a Surrey bylaw officer.
