Stephen McNeil

Stephen McNeil is Premier of Nova Scotia. He was sworn in on October 22, 2013, when his Liberals defeated the incumbent New Democrats and the Conservatives. This victory allowed the Liberals to form their first government in the province since 1998. He was elected leader of the party in 2007, and led the party to form the Official Opposition in the 2009 election.

Prior to entering politics, Stephen McNeil owned and operated a small appliance repair shop for 18 years in Bridgetown.
He began his political career in 1999. He faced criticism in 2013, when it was revealed he identified as being pro-life in the 1999 election. At the time of criticism, he said that his opinions have evolved, and he is now pro-choice.
