Stephanie Kusie was first elected in a 2017 by-election. Her riding was previously held by Conservative Jason Kenney, who left federal politics to pursue the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta, which he subsequently won.
Kusie has a BA in political science from the University of Calgary and an MBA from Rutgers University. She was Chargé d’Affaires for Canada to El Salvador, and a Consul for Canada to Dallas, Texas. She also served as a policy advisor to Peter Kent during his time as Minister of State for the Americas.
Kusie ran for Calgary City Council in 2013 but was unsuccessful. She later became the Executive Director of Common Sense Calgary.
Kusie speaks English, French, and Spanish. She and her husband James have one son.
