Rodger Cuzner is currently serving his sixth consecutive term as a Member of Parliament for Cape Breton–Canso and has been named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development, and Labour.
During his time in office, Cuzner has held critic portfolios such as Fisheries and Oceans, Veterans’ Affairs, Employment and Social Development, and Human Resources and Skills Development. His reputation during his first term as a hard-working MP who could manage to sit on multiple demanding standing committees elevated him through the ranks. Cuzner was Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister under Jean Chretien, as well as holding the positions of Nova Scotia Caucus Chair, Atlantic Caucus Chair, and Chief Opposition Whip.
Cuzner is well known for delivering a satirical Christmas poem every year in the House, as well as representing the Liberal party on Power and Politics.
Cuzner was an athlete and a hockey enthusiast who grew up with the love of the sport which led him to earn a degree in physical recreation. Cuzner co-created the Cape Breton Sport and Heritage Awards Committee. He later became a sport commentator and columnist as well as the Athletic Coordinator for the city of Fort McMurray.
He and his wife Lynn and have three children.
