First elected as MP for Vaudreuil–Soulanges in 2015, Peter Schiefke serves as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, with a focus on youth affairs.
Schiefke has a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Concordia University and a Master’s of Science in renewable resources from McGill. Before being elected Schiefke was an environmentalist. He was national director of Climate Reality Canada, an organization that educates people about environmental issues. The organization was started in the United States by former VicePresident and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Al Gore.
Schiefke spent four years doing humanitarian relief work in northern Uganda. On his return to Canada he cofounded the Concordia Volunteer Abroad Program, a nonprofit that helps victims of civil war in East Africa. The program has many several awards including the Paix et Justice award from Forces Avenir. Schiefke still serves on the program’s board of directors and continues to fundraise.
He is passionate about humanitarian, environmental and social causes. He co-founded Youth Action Canada, a nonprofit that encourages young people to get involved in the fight to stop climate change.
In 2003 Schiefke earned a commendation from the Minister of Veterans Affairs for his project We Will Always Remember that paid tribute to veterans.
As a young man Schiefke was a member of the Quebec pop group Inmotion.
He lives with his family in Vaudreuil-sur-le-lac, Quebec.
