The new MP for Beaches–East York was born and raised in the riding. Nathaniel Erskine- Smith worked as a litigation lawyer before being elected to the House of Commons.
He has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s University and a Master’s in law from Oxford University where he focused on political philosophy and constitutional law.
Erskine-Smith has volunteered with the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and has provided pro bono legal services to a variety of causes.
His policy focus is on environmental sustainability, democratic reform, stable funding for health care, national child care and increased investment in public transit.
He has said that he plans to present a Private Member’s Bill that touches on either preventative health care, better nutrition labelling or animal welfare.
Erskine-Smith is married. His wife is a professor at George Brown College.
