Monica Ell-Kayanuk

Monica Ell-Kayanuk is the Minister of Health for Nunavut.

She was first elected in a 2011 by-election, and was re-elected in 2013.

Prior to entering politics, Ell-Kayanuk had a long and successful career in media. She was director of the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation and worked in the industry for 18 years.

She also has a strong background and experience working in business. Ell-Kayanuk was Director of Economic Development at Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated, served as President of the Nunavut Economic Forum, President of the Baffin Chamber of Commerce and Vice-President of the Atuqtuarvik Corporation.

Further, Ell-Kayanuk also served as Vice-President of Pauktuutit, the national organization representing Inuit women.

Prior appointments in the legislature have included stints as Minister of Family Services, Minister responsible for Homelessness, Minister responsible for the Status of Women and Minister responsible for the Qulliq Energy Corporation.
