Mike Nixon

Mike Nixon is the Minister of Health and Social Services for the Yukon.

Nixon was a noted businessman and entrepreneur before joining politics. He ran a number of businesses, including a family fun centre, graphic design firm and a property management group.

In the Yukon, Nixon began working with at-risk youth in the Whitehorse area, and also served on the board of directors for the territory chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Nixon’s son, Jack, lives with autism and prompted Nixon to co-found Autism Yukon, an organization dedicated to partnering with government to offer specialized services to people living with autism.

Nixon was first elected in the 2010 by-election for the riding of Whitehorse Centre. He was re-elected in 2011.
In addition to serving as Minister of Health and Social Services, Nixon also oversees the Workers Compensation Health and Safety Board.
