Michael Cooper is the new MP for St. Albert–Edmonton. He has been named the Conservative Party’s Official Opposition Deputy Critic for Justice. He has also been named vice-chair of the Special Joint Committee on Physician-Assisted Dying.
He has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta. He was called to the Alberta Bar in 2010. Before being elected he worked as a civil litigator at Ogilvie LLP. He is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association and the Canadian Bar Association.
Cooper is a lifelong resident of the riding and has been an active volunteer in the community. He has served as a district captain for the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Albert Rotary Club and St. Albert and District Chamber of Commerce.
He has also been active in the Conservative Party, leading fundraising and membership drives, working on local campaign and serving as president of the Edmonton–St. Albert riding association. He had previously served as a representative for Alberta on the National Council of the Canadian Alliance.
