Leona Alleslev

Aurora–Oak Ridges–Richmond Hill

The MP for the new riding of Aurora–Oak Ridges–Richmond Hill, Leona Alleslev, is a retired Royal Canadian Air Force officer. Alleslev has been named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement.

Alleslev has a BA in history and politics from Royal Military College. After graduating she received her Queen’s Commission and served in the Air Force as a logistics officer.

After retiring for the forces, Alleslev worked as a civilian for National Defence. She has also worked with IBM Canada and Bombardier Aerospace. She has served on the Aerospace Industry Association of Canada, the Ontario Aerospace Council and the Women in Aerospace Association joint government/industry change initiatives, working to change the way multimillion dollar Air Force maintenance contracts are structured, evaluated and awarded.

Alleslev plans to focus on transit funding, affordable housing, poverty reduction, retirement security and health care.

Alleslev is married to a retired Canadian Armed Forces pilot, Ted Krofchak, and together they started a ecotourism business, Temagami Outfitting Company. They also have two teenage daughters. Her father is retired Major General Ian Alleslev.

Of note, in 2010 Alleslev was involved in a court case with Valcom, a company that she had helped win a joint bid for DND’s Optimized Weapon System Management. Alleslev was hired as project manager for ARINC, the co-bidder, but was fired halfway through her contract.

Alleslev sued Valcom for $2 million in damages. Valcom accused Alleslev of bad management. After a lengthy trial process a lower court judge awarded damages.
