Before being elected as the Member of Parliament for Pickering-Uxbridge, Jennifer O’Connell served three terms as a city councillor for the region and was named deputy mayor for the city of Pickering. She also served on the Durham Region Finance and Administration Committee.
O’Connell was the youngest elected politician in her ward.
O’Connell has a Bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Toronto. She decided to get involved in politics after working as a junior legal assistant and volunteering at a labour law firm. The work gave her a passion for giving a voice to those in needs.
She previously spent 4 years as the Chair of the Waterfront Committee and Vice-Chair of the Sustainable Pickering Committee.
During the election she focused on the community’s infrastructure needs and the needs of seniors in the riding.
