Jean Rioux

Jean Rioux was first elected to the House of Commons in 2015, and currently serves as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence.

Before being elected in the federal riding of Saint­-Jean, Rioux was a Liberal Member of the National Assembly in Quebec representing Iberville. He was named Parliamentary Assistant for the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and then served as Minister of Labour.

After being defeated in the 2007 provincial election Rioux took a position as an administrative judge at the Commission municipale du Québec.

Prior to provincial politics Rioux served as a city councillor and mayor of Iberville. He is also the one­time acting Reeve of the Regional County Municipality of Haut­-Richelieu and an interim municipal councillor of St-­Jean-­sur-­Richelieu.

He has a Bachelor’s degree in history from the Université du Québec à Trois Rivières, and certificates in education and political science. After graduating Rioux taught history and economics at Marcellin-­Champagnat Secondary School in Iberville.

Rioux is still heavily involved in his community. He has served as chair of the board of the Caisse populaire d’Iberville and vice­-president of the Centre d’aide aux entreprises in St-Jean­-sur­-Richelieu.

He is the recipient of the Award of Excellence (Training) from the Chamber of Commerce.
