Kevin Sorenson was first elected to the House of Commons as a member of the Canadian Alliance in 2000 in the riding of Crowfoot. He was re-elected in 2015 in the new riding of Battle River–Crowfoot. Sorenson has won the riding by some of the largest margins in Canadian history.
Under the previous government, Sorenson was the Minister of State (Finance). He has also served as Official Opposition Critic to the Solicitor General and the critic for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and as the chair of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security.
Before being elected Sorenson owned and operated his family farm and a small auction company. When Western farmers faced severe drought in the early 2000s, Sorenson helped coordinate Hay West, when Eastern Canadian farmers helped the Western farmers feed their livestock.
He says agriculture will always be a priority for his constituents.
Sorenson lives in Killam, Alberta with his wife and two children. Their home is near the farm his grandfather’s ran. His grandfather was also a local councillor and his father was the local MLA.
