Glen Motz was elected in a 2016 by-election, to fill the seat of Jim Hillyer, who died of a heart attack while in office.

Motz was a police officer in Medicine Hat, Alberta for 35 years. He rose to the rank of Inspector and was part of the Chief of Police’s executive team. In 2012 he received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, and in 2013 was named by the Governor General as a Member of theĀ Order of Merit of Police Forces.

He has a Bachelor of Religious Education from Medicine Hat College.

As an active volunteer, Motz has served on boards for Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Medicine Hat Community Housing Society, Christian camp Eagles Nest Ranch, and his local church. He has also coached minor hockey and high school basketball, and volunteered with Block Parents, the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society, and the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank.

Glen and his wife Sue have two children and six grandchildren.
