Sherwood Park–Fort Saskatchewan


Garnett Genuis is the newly elected Conservative MP for Sherwood Park–Fort Saskatchewan and Opposition Deputy Critic for Human Rights and Religious Freedoms. He has been active in politics since he was a teenager and spent time as an intern in the Prime Minister’s Office after graduating high school. He was then hired on as a full­-time employee.

Genuis has a Bachelor’s degree in public affairs and policy management from Carleton University and a Master’s in in public policy from the London School of Economics. Before running in federal politics he was a provincial candidate for Alberta’s Wildrose Party. In addition to working in the Prime Minister’s Office, Genuis worked as an advisor in the ministerial office of Rona Ambrose.

Genuis is active around his community. He has had a regular column in the Sherwood Park News starting at the age of 15 and through his time in university. In his youth he volunteered at the Strathcona County Library and the Sherwood Park Care Centre. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Sherwood Park and served on the Board of Directors of the Saffron Centre, an organization that provides counselling to those who have suffered sexual assault and sexual abuse.

He is married to Rebecca, a family physician, and together they have two children.
