Dean Allison was elected MP for Niagara West–Glanbrook for the first time in 2004. The riding was redistributed in 2015 and Allison was elected for Niagara West. He is the Official Opposition’s Deputy Critic for International Development. In previous sessions of parliament Allison has served as Chair of the House of Commons Liaison Committee and the Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development. He was also a member of the Conservative Caucus Advisory Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and acted as Vice-Chair of the Ontario Conservative Caucus. He was also appointed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper to the Red Tape Reduction Committee.
Allison has a degree in economics from Wilfrid Laurier University. He has served the community of Niagara as president of the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation and president of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. He has been a director of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and served on the board of Junior Achievement in Niagara. Allison is a founding member of the Dave Thomas Adoption Foundation in Canada and the Belarus Children of Chernobyl Program, which brings children affected by the Chernobyl disaster to Canada.
