David Anderson has been the MP for Cypress Hills–Grasslands since 2000. He has served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and for the Canadian Wheat Board, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Consular. Anderson has been named the Question Period coordinator for the Conservative Opposition as well as the critic for human rights and religious freedoms.
Between 2006 and 2010 Anderson served as the Chair of the National Prayer Breakfast in Ottawa. He is passionate about the need to protect religious freedom around the world. He has hosted Parliamentary forums on religious freedom and is a founding member of the International Panel of Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief.
Anderson worked with fellow Conservative MP Bev Shipley (Lambton–Kent–Middlesex) to present at pass Private Member’s Motion M-382 which voices Canada’s support from freedom of conscience and religions around the world. The motion passed unanimously.
While Anderson was the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources he worked extensively on the Canadian Wheat Board file. This worked culminated in the introduction of Bill C-18, An Act to reorganize the Canadian Wheat Board and to make consequential and related amendments to certain Acts, more colloquially known as the Marketing Freedom for Grain Farmers Act.
Anderson has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Regina and a Master’s in Divinity from the Canadian Theological Seminary. He is married and has two adult children and one grandson.
