Born and raised in Yarmouth, Colin Fraser was a partner in a local law firm until his election as the new MP for West Nova.
Fraser has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie. He is a member of L’Association des juristes d’expression française de la Nouvelle Écosse and has served as President of the Western Counties Barristers’ Society and the Yarmouth County Bar. Shortly after starting his law career, Fraser became the local Liberal riding association president.
Fraser is a volunteer with the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation and the South West Nova Transition House Association, a shelter for abused women and their children.
Before becoming a lawyer, Fraser worked as a tour guide at Rideau Hall and as a guide at Vimy Ridge after being selected by Veterans’ Affairs Canada. Fraser has said that his priorities as an MP, based on what he heard around his riding, are jobs, the economy and seniors’ issues.
He was raised by his mother, Sharon, after his father died of leukemia when Fraser was only six years old.
